Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock (FBAA) was active at the Arqana Bloodstock Sale that finished on Tuesday with five lots totalling 530,000 euros (AUD 786,870).
Top price among the mares purchased by Gabbedy for his clients was the well-bred grey Dispel (Oasis Dream) for 180,000 euros. She won the Prix Rouvignac and is in foal to English – Irish Derby champion Australia.
Dispel is a half-sister to French stakes winner Iromea (Dansili) from the family of G1 French Oaks winner Gold Lilac.
Weeping Wind (Oratorio) was another young mare on the shopping list at 110,000 euros. She’s a half-sister to French-bred export He's Your Man (Cape Cross) who won the 2014 G1 Epsom Hcp before succumbing to a heart-attack earlier this year.
Haras de Vieux Pont sold Weeping Wind in foal to Invincible Spirit’s French Derby winner Lawman.
Gabbedy also claimed a Dark Angel filly foal for 100,000 euros. Her dam Saturnine (Galileo) was a stakes winner in France and has thrown winners by Danehill Dancer and Acclamation.
Dark Angel (Acclamation) has made an outstanding start to his stud career with Mecca's Angel (G1 Nunthorpe Stakes) and Group 2 winning juveniles Birchwood and Gutaifan this year. His service fee has risen from 7,000 euros in 2011 to 60,000 euros at Yeomanstown Stud in 2016.
