Rokkii by name - Rokkii by nature

He’s Our Rokkii (NZ) will go into the G1 Toorak Hcp (1600m) on the back of four wins in a row and a ringing endorsement from Lindsay Park co-trainer Tom Dabernig.

“He’s a horse really going places” Dabernig said after a last-start victory in the Sheen Group Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield.  “We had a four-year-old view of him from the outset and he’s developed into a powerful miler.”

He’s Our Rokkii (4g Roc de Cambes - Clerihew by Lomitas) rose from a Benalla maiden win this time last year to a Group 3 double in the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Randwick’s Championships in April.

Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) member Mark Pilkington got under the guard of several prospective buyers when he spirited the gelding out of New Zealand.  His breeders Costa Feneridis and John Collinson are still on board as well as Seymour Bloodstock’s Darren Thomas and William Hill business manager Dean Elliott.

“Pilko knew the people who owned him over there,” Elliott recalled.  “Then he worked his magic and secured the horse for Lindsay Park.

HE’S OUR ROKKII

“He’s Rokkii by name and Rokkii by nature.  He’s tough and talented and gets the job done.  He runs out a strong 2000 metres and that will open up more doors later this season.”

Pilkington is also kicking goals since launching Horse Training Packages.  In the last twelve months, the innovative business has won black-type races with He’s Our Rokkii, Keen Array, Don’t Doubt Mamma, Extra Choice, Risque and He Or She.

“It’s going along very nicely and we’re in the process of appointing a new national manager to take it to a broader market,” Pilkington said.  “Last season we raced 18 three-year-olds for 16 individual winners.

“It’s all about sustainable racing and the key is to offer transparent, fixed price training without any surprises.”
