FBAA members Sheamus Mills, Damon Gabbedy, Peter Ford, Adrian Hancock & Brett Howard were all on the sale-sheet at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale in Sydney on Sunday.
Strong competition for foals saw buyers secure 162 lots at a healthy clearance rate of 85%.
Graeme and Barbara Gathercole were very busy with their bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills signing for 5 weanlings for a total of $340,000, including the $160,000 sale topping filly by Magnus out of Flowerdrum (Lot 51). She is a half-sister to three winners including the stakes-performer San Choi Bao.
“I love her breeding and I love the way she walks,” Barbara Gathercole said. “She is our first Magnus and had everything we look for in a foal.”
The Gathercoles operates Graebar Park on the Mornington peninsula and have bred numerous city winners like black-type sprinter Bel Price (Bel Esprit). She was retained and foaled a filly by Master Of Design first-up last September.
Ford struck early with $75,000 for a Pierro – Bobine filly (Lot 25). Her dam is a half-sister to USA Champion Filly Possibly Perfect and the dam of Coil (G1 Haskell Invitational). The latter opened his account at stud when his first starter Recoiling won at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday.
