Dream sequence from Arc Sale to Cox Plate

Next year’s MVRC Cox Plate is the long-term target for German colt Poetic Dream following his sale to an Australian partnership on Saturday.

POETIC DREAM

Poetic Dream (Ire) topped the Arqana Arc Sale with a €900,000 (AUD 1.34 million) bid from Louis Le Metayer's Astute Bloodstock (FBAA) on behalf of trainer David Hayes.  The Poet’s Voice colt is a Jaber Abdullah homebred from LR Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Zain Al Boldan (Poliglote).

"We have bought him with the Cox Plate in mind," Le Metayer told Racing Post.  "He won the German Guineas in a really good time and ticks all the boxes for us.  There is huge prizemoney available in Australia for the top races, and we think he will stay further in time."

Previously in the care of Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Andreas Woehler, he won on debut at Dusseldorf in March before a third-placing over a mile at Maisons-Laffitte in April.

Poetic Dream overcome adversity next time out in the G2 German 2000 Guineas (1600m).  Settled midfield, he was denied a run early in the straight as British raider Lockheed threatened to go clear at Cologne.

When the gap finally came on the fence, he made up significant ground to reel in the grey Exceed And Excel colt by a neck in 1.34.83s.

Lindsay Park and Astute Bloodstock are on the cusp of a successful spring carnival this year with big-ticket buys Harlem (GB) and Ventura Storm (Ire).

Harlem (Champs Elysees) firmed into $9 for the G1 Caulfield Cup following an ultra-impressive victory in the G3 Naturalism Stakes last weekend.  He cost 520,000gns (AUD 882,825) at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale last October.

Ventura Storm (Zoffany) has pleased in a couple of spring trials over a mile at Caulfield & Flemington.  A Group 1 winner in Italy and Group 1 placed in the English St Leger, he was purchased privately and is currently quoted at $21 for the Melbourne Cup.
