SMB strikes in South Africa

South African winner Fish River has maintained a strong strike-rate for Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) in 2017.

Fish River (Aus) was given the run of the race by Anton Delpech to win the Interbet Hcp (1400m) at Turffontein last week.  She is trained by Mike De Kock and carries the famed yellow and black silks of the Oppenheimer family.

Mills pin-hooked her as a foal for $60,000 from Yarraman Park at the 2015 Magic Millions National Sale.  She toured the ring again as a yearling when making $130,000 at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Fish River (3f Canford Cliffs – Zabeea by Exceed And Excel) was bred by Wodonga-based trainer Peter Maher.  Her second-dam Arrabeea (Zabeel) was a Group 3 winner at Doomben and Caulfield.

SMB purchased 55 horses through public auction including 9 internationally this year.  And the future is looking bright with a win-place strike-rate of 42% from its retained racing stock.

Mills unearthed another nice 3yo filly out of an Exceed And Excel mare earlier this month when See Me Exceed won on debut at Bairnsdale.  The Mick Price trainee followed up with an eye-catching fourth at Caulfield on Boxing Day – she didn’t see daylight until the final stages and is a filly going places in 2018.

See Me Exceed (3f Sebring - Mrs Kipling by Exceed And Excel) was a $105,000 buy from Yarraman Park at the 2016 Inglis Easter Sale and Mills races her in partnership with Newton Thoroughbreds.  Her yearling half-sister by Shooting To Win has been catalogued as Lot 113 by Noorilim Park for the 2018 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Caulfield’s Boxing Day card produced another good result for SMB when Stellar Collision won the LR Christmas Stakes.  Mills bought her dam What An Impact (More Than Ready) for some Canberra clients last year and she foaled a Star Witness sister to Stellar Collision in September.

Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) was formed in 1988 to maintain, improve and develop the standards, status and services of bloodstock agents throughout Australia.  Its members operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism and are bound by the strict Industry Code of Conduct.
