Belmont winners buoy Boomer

Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Craig Rounsefell and his Perth connection fired up for a winning winter season when Belmont reopened on Saturday.

No Say In It (Smart Missile) returned to form for Rounsefell and fellow-part-owners Chris Wells, Neil Crawford and John Farac in the Heineken Hcp (1600m).  He swamped a packed field to score in a blanket finish at $16.

“We thought he could win at Ascot two starts back but he was the first horse beaten,” trainer Lindsey Smith recalled.  “They found stomach ulcers but he’s been treated and has come good.  He tends to stargaze when ridden forward so Dan Staeck rode him cold today and it worked out well.”

No Say In It cost Rounsefell $130,000 at the 2015 Inglis Premier Sale and Smith will plan ahead for the LR Belmont Guineas (1600m) on June 24 and LR Aquanita Stakes (2000m) on July 8.

Meanwhile, star stablemate Scales Of Justice is being set for a first-up tilt at the LR Belmont Sprint (1400m) this Saturday, June 3.  “He’s working well and, if all goes to plan, I will give him three starts this time in,” Smith revealed.  “Dan won a couple of Lark Hill trials on him earlier this month and Paul Harvey is also in line for the ride.”

The G3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) on June 17 and G3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) on July 1 are also in the mix before a spell leading into the summer carnival.

Scales Of Justice (Not A Single Doubt) won the $1 million Railway Stakes (1600m) last November and was denied a Group 1 double when nailed a nose by Stratum Star in the Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

A $180,000 buy for Rounsefell acting on behalf of Wells and Bill Andrews at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, he goes into the Belmont Sprint with 7 wins in 14 starts and over $1.14 million in prizemoney.
