WA based FBAA members Noel Carter and John Chalmers have started Perth’s winter season with winners at Belmont.
Carter’s Commercial Bloodstock (FBAA) secured a bargain with a $20,000 bid for last-start winner War Jeune at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions. He has earned $147,320 for a syndicate that includes trainer Steve Wolfe and part-owners Eddie Rigg, John Sandford, Mick Brazier and Ron Sayers.
War Jeune was up for a fight in the Sky Racing Provincial Championship (1400m). He was under siege in the straight but kept lifting to score in a blanket finish from Le Patron and Rikki Tikki Tavi.
The War Chant gelding is from a three-quarter sister to LR Hareeba Stakes winner El Nino. “I thought he had just hung on but I’ve been wrong a few times lately,” Wolfe said. “He’s a nice type and will get a mile as he gets older.”
John Chalmers Bloodstock (FBAA) chimed in with a double at Belmont on Saturday courtesy of My Magic Miss and Dark Royalty.
Kiwi-bred mare My Magic Miss (Mastercraftsman) improved her record to 6 wins and $237,838 in the TAB Touch Hcp (2000m). She had also enhanced her residual value with Listed placings in the Bunbury AHA Cup and Pinjarra Cup earlier this year.
My Magic Miss is a half-sister to Stripper (G3 Sweet Embrace Stakes) and the dam of Gold Symphony (G3 Vain Stakes). She cost Chalmers $26,000 as a foal for owners Nick & Tina Tufilli at the 2012 Magic Millions National Sale.
Dark Royalty (Blackfriars) won his first city race for part-owner and trainer Joanne Forrest in the Peninsula Dining Room Hcp (1400m). He had earned a trip to Perth after a half-dozen victories in Kalgoorlie.
A younger half-brother to Magic Millions star Karuta Queen, he was a $110,000 buy for Chalmers at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions and was initially trained by Ted Martinovich before transferring to the Goldfields.
