Star fillies at Classic Sale

Randwick Bloodstock (FBAA) dominated the opening session of the Inglis Classic Sale on Saturday evening spending $900,000 for three yearlings on behalf of Star Thoroughbreds.

Star Thoroughbreds founder Denise Martin was flush with funds after a successful afternoon at Warwick Farm. Star filly Fiesta (I Am Invincible) won the $1 million Inglis Sprint (1100m) while stablemate Accession (Brazen Beau) was runner-up in the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1200m).

Topping their shopping list were fillies by champion sire I Am Invincible from Limbo Down ($330,000) and Runs Deep ($300,000).

Martin has teamed up with Randwick Bloodstock’s Brett Howard this year and the fillies will join Fiesta and Accession with Chris Waller. “I said to Brett we have to target I Am Invincible. His fillies are increasingly becoming unbuyable and we liked these two. I didn’t think I would be able to buy both but winning a million-dollar race makes you braver.”

The Limbo Down filly (Lot 90) is a sister to Rosehill juvenile winner Limbo Soul and the Runs Deep filly (Lot 105) is from a half-sister to NZ stakes winner Excellent Reward.

Filling out the trio was the Press Statement colt (Lot 72) knocked down for $270,000. He is a three-quarter brother to the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sydney winner Stonebrook. “They don't look much better than this colt!” Howard said.

Vinery sire Press Statement was a G1 Caulfield Guineas winner for Waller and his first-crop were popular at the Gold Coast Magic Millions. “He’s got a lovely page and ticked all the boxes for our team,” Martin said. “Press Statement was an exceptional racehorse and this colt, in our view, is quite outstanding.”

Other FBAA members with six-figure buys on Saturday night were Astute Bloodstock ($185k colt by Not a Single Doubt) and Blue Sky Bloodstock ($175k colt by Written Tycoon).

The Classic Sale runs through to Thursday at Riverside Stables.
